How to Navigate the “Back-end” of Odyssey

Dashboard

The dashboard features widgets with details about your groups collections, including recent items and collections, account storage (which is shared with all History Trust groups) and analytics.

Top Right Corner

There are four buttons in the top right corner:

  1. The person icon includes account-specific links (including Log Out)
    • *Click on the person icon to link your google drive account to Odyssey (required for imports and bulk updates)
      • Go to “My Account” then “Spreadsheets and Documents”
      • Follow the prompts on the page to connect your account
  2. The bell icon displays your account notifications
    • *To change your notification settings, click the person icon, click My Account, then click “Notifications”
  3. The question mark icon includes help links for using Odyssey
  4. The blue import button begins a new import (instead of navigating to the Imports section in the navigation panel)

Use the search bar to search your account. Search results will include collection records, item records, and list entries.

Navigation Panel

The left side of the page includes a navigation panel, below are descriptions of each section of Odyssey.

  • Lists: Read access to all authority lists in Odyssey
    • Make list suggestions (changes or additions)
    • There are more than 17 active History Trust authority lists which are described in the Odyssey Data Dictionary.
  • Collections: Access and manage your existing collections in Odyssey
  • Imports: Start, resume, or review your imports and bulk updates
  • Registrar Tools: Access and manage your accession records, donor information, and all other registrar functions
    • This section connects to your collection records, but is controlled separately for privacy and security, so some functions are not the most intuitive to manage.
  • Searches: Control your basic and advanced searches on your website, and set custom searches for other website features
  • Website: Control your public website here (most features of your website are managed here with the exception of Searches and Exhibits)
    • Click the eye icon to view your public website and click the pencil icon to edit
  • Modules:
    • Exhibits – Create and edit Exhibits to display on your public website
    • Enhanced Exhibits – Not accessible to group members at this time
    • Reports – Create reports for your Odyssey account and view past reports
      • Most reports include things like item counts, and only include links to records in Odyssey instead of the full item metadata
    • Odyssey API – Not accessible at this time
